Agenda

teen using cell phoneAgenda

  1. Today we will be listening to a short newscast on how our phones effect our academic performance.  As a class, listen to "The Distracting Draw of our Phones."
  2. As a class, discuss:
  • Do you think there should be a class/school phone policy?
  • Why or why not?
    • What do you think of the District guidelines (in the orange box on of this page)?
  • Have you ever been frustrated that someone else is distracted by their phone?
  • Does this story seem true for you?  Does your phone affect your academics?
  • What helps you resist the temptation to check your phone?  What changes might you try?

Did you know that FCPS has a new recommended cell phone policy?

FCPS Cell Phone Guidelines:

High School: Phones must be silenced and kept put away during all instructional periods. Storage may be in a locker, backpack, pencil bag, etc. during classes. Teachers may allow cell phone usage in their classrooms at their discretion, with the support of the administration. Cell phones may be used on campus before the first bell, after the last bell, during passing periods and lunches.

Confiscation of cell phones is not recommended if students violate these guidelines; referrals are recommended instead.

Note: These guidelines were created in response to a request from the Fairfax County Council of PTSA’s (and others) to implement consistent student cell phone restrictions in our schools.
