Grade Check Up Instructions

Objective

  • Students monitor academic progress and set goals.
  • Students check FCPS gmail account to make note of important information sent by email.

Description:

Just like you go to the doctor and dentist for checkups to stay physically healthy, you should be checking up on your grades every once in awhile to stay academically healthy!  Motivation Monday’s (in Advisory) are a chance to stay on top of your Academic Success! Use your advisory time to monitor progress in classes and make needed adjustments in your routine.  Use the Grade Check Up sheet to track your progress. Your teacher and fellow classmates can help with ideas for success!

Students:

  1. Log into your FCPS Google apps account.

  2. In your Google drive make and Advisory folder and share it with your Advisor

  3. Make a copy of the "Grade Check Up" sheet and save it to your Advisory folder.

  4. The first time you open the sheet, fill in your name, the semester (fall or spring), and a profession that you are considering for the future. You can always change your profession if you change your mind. Also fill in the class you have for each period.

  5. In another tab or on your phone, open StudentVUE.

  6. Look up your current grade for each class. Fill in that grade percentage in the 09/30/19 column.

  7. After filling in all of your grades, think about the profession you listed at the top of the paper.

    • Are your current grades going to get you there?

    • Are you doing as well in every class as you want to be?

  8. If you have even one class that you'd like to make improvements, open the individual assignment vue of that class. Highlight any pre-existing conditions that might be contributing to your lower grade.

  9. Finally, write yourself a "prescription".  Make a plan to improve that grade. Examples could be:

    • See my teacher on a specific date to get extra help.

    • Work with a friend during Lancer Time who is in the same class as me.

    • Make up specific missing assignments

    • Retake a test

    • Etc.

  10. If you are not sure what you should do, ask a class mate or your teacher for help with ideas. Use the remainder of time to actively work on your prescription plan.

    • You could email your teacher to set up a tutoring session.

    • Print out missing assignments.

    • Finish missing homework.

    • Study for an upcoming test.

  11. If you have a 100% in all of your classes, your prescription might be to continue doing what you do! Good job!

Teachers:

  1. Help students

    1. Create an Advisory folder

    2. Share the folder with you

    3. Make a copy of the Grade Check Up sheet

    4. Log in to StudentVUE.

  2. Circulate and give students suggestions for how to improve their grades in certain classes.

  3. Encourage students to connect with their teachers (maybe by emailing them at the time) and set up a plan for improvement.

  4. If students are missing a lot of work, help them create a manageable calendar and plan to make some of it up.

  5. Do all of the good teachery stuff you do every day!
