2016-2025 IB Extended Essay: Workshop 5: Supervisors and Reflections

March of junior year

The first formal reflection session should focus on your initial ideas and how you plan to undertake your research:

• Student Preparation for Reflection #1 
• Think about what you will write before you attend your 1st meeting with your supervisor.
• Complete Reflection #1 and submit it to Schoology  (by 4/13) in the presence of your supervisor.

The second reflection is a continuation of the dialogue between supervisor and student - students should be able to demonstrate the progress they have made in their research. Students should also be able to discuss any challenges they have encountered, offer their own potential solutions and seek advice as necessary.

• Think about what you will write before you attend your September meeting with your supervisor.
• Complete Reflection #2 and submit it to Schoology in the presence of your supervisor.

November/December senior year

The third reflection follows the Viva Voce (exit interview) with your supervisor.  It is the last chance to reflect and write about the process. 

• Student Preparation for Reflection #3 
• Think about what you will write before you attend your Nov/Dec (final) meeting with your supervisor.
• Complete Reflection #3 and submit it to Schoology in the presence of your supervisor.
