    • When: March 7, 1965
    • What: 600 people attempted to cross the Edmund Pettus Bridge to march from Selma, AL to Montgomery, AL in a peaceful demonstration for African American voting rights.  State troopers violently attacked the protesters with tear gas and clubs.
