Researching & Advocating for Change
How can you advocate for change in your community and the world?
English 9/Government PBL Project: Immigration
For the next several weeks, you will be working in English 9 and Government to complete a “real-world” project on Immigration. After deciding your focus, you will complete research, write a persuasive letter to a Member of Congress, and give a presentation to your peers. We will be working in-class and at the library.
Part 1. Research
For this project, you will use the research skills you learned in English 9 and Government this year. Specifically, you will:
Narrow the focus of your research by picking one topic:
Write a position statement (argument) about the one topic you select.
Evaluate at least 3 sources about your topic using the CARRoTS criteria, including
Take Notes from at least 3 sources
Cite at least 3 sources
Part 2. Advocacy Campaign
Next, you will create an advocacy campaign about your topic. Specifically, you will:
Find images that are free to reuse
Create a message to accompany the image
Use Adobe Spark, Google Draw or other approved program to create a social media campaign
Part 3. Presentation
Last, you will present your research and social media campaign.
For this presentation, you will:
Share your social media campaign image
Give a 3-5 minute oral presentation on your advocacy message
