Black History Month Biography Project: John R. Lewis Library

About the project:

You will be selecting a person who has made an impact in their field, to celebrate Black History Month. As you read and learn about your person you will also be working on the IB Approaches to Learning (ATL) Skills.

The final project will be displayed in the library during the month of February!

Black History Month

Black History Month is celebrated every February in the United States, since 1976. Carter G. Woodson originally came up with a weeklong celebration to honor Black achievement and grew in popularity.

The month of February was selected because it is close to the birthdays of President Abraham Lincoln (responsible for the Emancipation Proclamation) and African American abolitionist Frederick Douglass.
